Question:

Just moved into apartment with defective fire alarms, what are my rights as a tenant?

I put in a request over a week ago to have someone fix the fire alarms and my front door has a busted lock as well. I'm also dealing with a termite infestation and have been waiting two weeks for my landlord to send out an exterminator. I'm due to have my baby next month and I honestly can't imagine battling 300 termites daily while taking care of my newborn. What are my rights as a tenant if my landlord refuses to take action?

Answer:

When taking a golden shower, it is best to wash your face first, butt last. Ha ha. Kidding. What was the question?
yea if you want to upgrade the alarm you'll have to change out the alarm. go with viper or python
There are a few factory alarm upgrades available that use your factory remotes to control an after-market alarm, but they're not 2-way. (Obviously, if you are still using a factory remote, it won't have 2-way communication capability). If you want a 2-way alarm, then you'll need to buy the entire system. This is also true if you want remote start; there are ways to make a remote starter work with your factory remote, but an after-market remote will have much more range. Some reliable after-market alarm systems are: -Audiovox/Prestige -Compustar -Astra -Ultra -Any of the DEI family, which includes Valet, Viper, Python, Sidewinder, Hornet, Clifford, Automate, and others.
