Question:

just replaced my aluminum gas line that runs from my gas valve to the pilot burner with a copper one. Safe?

I have natural gas and was unable to find aluminum at menards. Why aluminum and not copper? Flaking the issue?

Answer:

because the thickness of aluminum is solid than the copper
The different is aluminum get hot fast and cool fast ,but copper it get heat fast and late cool ,so it keep the heat longer and this may cause danger in gas system. How ever a mice mouse copper pipe with thick wall it does do the job. 1- You should be sure of connection ,check it with soap liquid to make sure of any leakage. 2-Ring connection are not ideal for gas piping and you have to have conic press tie the pipe in gas connections.
Copper will work fine. And yes you could get some copper oxide buildup after years of usage but I wouldnt worry about it.
