Question:

K&N Cold Air Intake Sound?

i recently installed a KN Cold Air Intake 57i Gen2. everytime i step on the gas, my 1999 BMW 323i makes a high pitched whooshing sound. only for the first 3000 revs but after that the sound goes away. is it just the air getting sucked in? or is there a vacuum leak?thanks

Answer:

Yea that noise is most likely air being sucked into the intake. Its normal. But double check anyway to make sure all the connections are snug.
Yeah mate that noise is just the sound of the air passing through the filter, it is completely normal. I had a KN filter in my 5litre for a while and it used to make the same sound, I'm now using a BMC filter, and it is even noisier haha.
its just more air being sucked in, i have a KN air intake kit on my truck and i can't hear it if im inside the truck in the cab since i have true dual flowmasters on my truck but if i open the hood while its idling i can hear the air rushing into the filter, so its normal, but if you want to just make sure then while the engine is running carefully run your hand around all the connections where air could leak out and double check to make sure its hooked up right
