Question:

k&n intake system. short ram intake or cold air intake?

im buying a kn intake system for my 2007 honda civic si. which intake system would produce more power, the short ram or the cold air intake?

Answer:

Well, engines perform better with cold air(the denser the air the more oxygen introduced into the engine, ever wondered why your car feels faster on a cold night, same effect). Do not put a filter directly on your throttle body, the hot air under the hood will kill off any gains that the high flowing filter would of been able to give you, this is why manufacturers have their filters in a box up the front. If you want to use a cone style filter make sure it is shielded from any heat sources. The gains will only be a couple of hp, unnoticeable one may say, a good start for further modifications anyway
To be completely honest, NONE! intakes dont do crap for cars besides decrease your gas mileage, cost you money, and make your car sound stupid. Keep the stock intake on it, save yourself the money, and call it day. You will not see any power gains worth the $250-$300 you will spend. If you are lucky, you will see an average gain of maybe 5-6 HP. Maybe! nevermind the sensationalist claims that manufacturers make or the tool working on commission at your local tuner shop. All they are trying to do is sell you some worthless crap that will do nothing but cost you money and make them money. Its that simple. Save your money and do something worth while. Get a new stereo in your car instead!
i had injen cold are intake on my 2001 civic ex and i didn't notice any difference. I honestly think that the longer it travels and bends through a metal pipe the warmer it will get. maybe try those plastic ones. just my opinion. but i could be wrong
