Kiln-Sitter Model K door question?

Its the model with the top hatch opening, but the thing is on this kiln that I discovered in the art room is that the door does not securely closeIs there a reason/way to attach the top hatch door? Please help, the owners manual is not giving me any headway.

Your question is a bit confusingKilns don't usually have latches on the lids - gravity holds the lid in place besides the hingesI am assuming that this is an old, top loading, manual, electric kiln and that the top is not closing all the wayIf that is the question, sometimes with an old kiln the straps can loosen on the top and the kiln bricks can be worn down and there can be gaps between the lid and the kilnIn that case, besides tightening up the straps and fixing the hinges for the top if needed, you can take pieces of ceramic fiber blanket (Kaowool) and fill the gaps between the lid and the body of the kilnDo this during the firingIt is a quick and cheap fix for this situationHope that answers your question.
