Question:

Laminate floor to carpet transition?

I installed laminate flooring in our living room this past weekend and where the laminate meets the carpet in our bedroom there is about 1 inch of a height difference. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

Answer:

They make transition pieces go to where you purchase the flooring. Tell the clerk what you're doing and he will give you the proper transition pieces. Good luck
It's called a 'transition', a piece of metal or wood that is beveled toward the two levels. Should have installed a sub-layer under the laminate before installation to bring it closer to flush as a 1 rise is a bit high. A 3- 4 wide transition is recommended in your case. Should have asked earlier.
If the carpet is that much higher ( not uncommon for laminate) you should have built up the laminate before hand. Not much you can do now. That correct transition pc is a carpet bar made for laminate. DO NOT use any metal pc between the to as some people suggested. The metal will make noises as it rubs against the laminate. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. I ve attended several installation seminars as well as installed a couple 100,000 s/f. GL
