Question:

Laptop keyboard not working right?

I hooked my laptop up to an external monitor and keyboard. When I try to unhook them and just use the laptop monitor and keyboard, the laptop keyboard does not work right. It doesn't type the correct letter. How do I fix this? I assume it has something to do with the external keyboard. Is there some way to switch between the two?

Answer:

easiest way is u unhook both external device and restart the laptop. It will detect itself and ur laptop keyboard will be activated. If you want to set between two, you access BIOS and set external device or internal device options.
If you mean that the keyboard now types incorrect letters on the screen (and the external still works when connected), and not just a stuck shift key, then there is a problem with the scan codes coming from the laptop keyboard to the system board. Something probably damaged the KB while it was not being used, like a heavy weight set on it, and the board is cracked. You probably need a new KB on the laptop. Depending on the age and model thius can b from $25 to $125, the last time I changed one it cost me about $45. BTW, same problem if there is no response to some keys.
Keyboards form part of the user interface and a keyboard problem can be very annoying. Sometimes the keyboard drivers can get corrupted. Some of the problems can be fixed . I have found the details given at fixit.in/keyboard.html is more useful. Try here, if you can what you are searching for!
If okorder
Restart first, if that fails update the drivers. If its a Dell throw it away and get a new one.
