Question:

Laptop not charging - Turns off when power cable isn't in?

I have had my Sony Laptop for about 2-3years. And only recently is it acting weird. When I have my power plugged in, the laptop runs fine and can be on as long as the power cable is in. But as soon as I take my power cable out, it automatically shuts down.I checked the power management, and it says my battery has 0% power. I have tried taking the battery out and putting it back in, but it still does not work. The lights on my laptop indicate it is charging, but it does not put any power into my battery and the only way it can run is if my power cable is plugged in. The battery is pretty much dead :/Is there any solutions to this? Considering I bought it in the UK and now live in the US

Answer:

You should go to a computer store and get a new battery, this happened to one of my friends, or you can google what type of computer you have and it will bring up tons of stuff! Good luck
The battery is toast. You will most likely need to buy a new battery for it.
your battery is most likely dead and in need of replacement. 2-3 years on a battery is about the life span of a rechargeable battery. you should be able to get a new battery very easily.
there are a couple of things that could cause this. 1: You've twisted a wire in your adapter and it will only put out enough power to keep the computer alive. That happened to me once, actually. 2: Your battery is ruined. Heavy use or constantly having your laptop plugged in causes that. 3: Your battery driver is messed up. Little chance but still... If you feel it's number 3 then run a diagnostic test.
