Question:

Leather or Fabric Sofa?

We are going to be investing in a new sofa/loveseat set soon. We have 2 cats, a medium sized dog (that seems to smell no matter how often we bathe him!) and 3 kids: 15,13 and 8. We are very hard on our furniture--we have lots of company over and our sofa and love seat get a LOT of use. What would be the most durable: leather or a good fabric? Our cats don't get up on the furniture and our dog doesn't shed (but he sure does smell!) so hair isn't a problem. I am more concerned with stains, smells, and the general livability of the material. Our home is very very comfortable and inviting and I want my furniture to portray that as well. I want something functional that looks nice too. I am wanting something that will last me awhile--at least until my kids move out and go to college. : ( Any ideas?

Answer:

Go with microfiber. idk about pets because we dont have pets but we do have kids around around and drawing on stuff with pens. idk about stores but you should get a microfiber sofa that you can just unzip if your pets or kids go pee pee on it, or spill milk you can just put it in the washer and then put it back on. very easy and clean. IT doesnt cost that bad, and it looks great even after a while. It looks great if you want the comfy feeling because itll look like you can just sit down and watch a great movie with your family instead of, OMG, THERES A STAIN HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO GET THAT OFFF, oh noooo! If you worry about stains, its washable. leather, can rip and a little costly, and it wears off after a while.. when the kids and pets jumping and playing around, and it will look saggy in a while, we have a leather and a microfiber couch. haha. good luck(: MICROFIBER.
I would say leather. Since you need something that shouldn't keep smells, stain and wont wear out too soon, I think leather is right for you. It is also easy to clean... Fabric not so much. I really hope this helps =]
High quality leather will wear the best and will not absorb smells as much as fabric. Look for a textured/aged leather rather than a polished, smooth style - which would quickly show scratches from animal nails.
Leather, leather, leather! We have two children, 3 dogs and a cat, dark leather(either chocolate brown or black) is the way to go! If something gets spilled, it's easy to wipe up! The dog smells won't seep into the leather as easily, all you have to do is take an leather safe uphostery cleaner to it once or twice a week, pledge would even work. Just wipe it down like your wiping down the counter or something, this will help keep any kind of funky smells to a minimum. When you have leather, you don't have to worry about shampooing or any of that mumbo jumbo! Just wipe it and vacuum it out once in a while. Hope this is helpful, good luck finding the right couch.
Leather is nice ,clean and don't collect pet dander or odours, but if your cats are not declawed there will be holes and scratches from their claws, if on the other hand they are de clawed then yes by all mean go with leather , I would, you can wipe it down easily.
