Leopard Gecko advice.HELP PLZ?

Hi,I need to make a shedding house for my leopard Gecko.i know you can use vermiculite with no added chemicals but can i use vermiculite with a little perlite mixed in it??? cuz thats all i have right now and she is starting to shed.and i dont want her to get sick or diethanks let me know

Answer:

hi yes you will be ok using perlite or you can use the coconut bricks you use for the substrate as allyou are trying to create is a place with a higher humidity than the rest of the tank .dont try cotton wool as this gets caught and tangled in thier claws
the easiest way to help a leopard gecko shed is to make a humid hid and it is very easy to make and the things you need to make you probably already have around you house. all you got to do it get a plastic jar like what the leopard gecko first came in or you can use a plastic jar like for sour cream and you just cut a hole in it and use a lighter to smooth the edges then out paper towels in it or moss then spray water in it and that will work perfectly for shedding to see how to do it go to youtube and type in leopard gecko humid hid and people will show you how to make one it is easy
Yes, and no. If it is under 6 in length use wet paper towels in the shed boxes. they wont stay damp for quite as long, but its much safer. If it is over 6 the danger of becoming impacted from ingesting any of the vermiculite/perlite is less, and shouldn't be problem. I just stay away from perlite, as i don't have experience with it. I do use vermiculite for my adults, as well as egg incubation.
