Question:

lift kit queston?

i got a 1983 Subaru gl station wagon, it has a 1.8l non turbo with a 5 speed and i am looking for a lift kit, and some performance parts too, and do not say any tang bomb, like the car ant worth that, and why! its my car and i can what i want to do to it!

Answer:

blow it up or use up the battery
Great news! on an '83 car you dont need a lift kit! The front shocks are ajustable via two nuts at the base of the spring. Use some lube to free them off and wind them up and hey presto! The front is higher! The rear is even easier, look under the rear seat in the middle and there is a blanking plug, pull the plug out and right in front of you is a damn great nut. wind it and it ajusts the rear torsion bar, raising the rear of the car! (dont forget to lube first.) **** some 2wd cars (Guessing your car is 2wd as it is a 5 speed) did not have these features, but if this is the case simply swap the front struts and rear torsion bar from a 4wd car at the breakers yard. performance wise, the simplest and most effective is a good tune (advance the ignition, check the tappet clearances). these cars were quite rapid at the time! A good tune of the carb will work wonders as well. In the UK we got a 1600 GLF twin carb, and if you can get hold of these twin carb sets they make the 1800 fly! Also , I agree, its your car, you can do what you like with it. I actually really rate these earlier subaru's. Bombproof pushrod motor, light and nimble and a great dashboard. Sadly in the UK they are nearly all gone, due to rust from our salty wet roads.
