Question:

Loft insulation - wool or hemp options?

has anyone used or considered wool or hemp instead of the awful glass fibre wool rolls for loft insulation? Is it OK or just too expensive to be an option?

Answer:

The lettuce and tomato are wateryWater comes out of them as the sandwich sitsWater+ soft breadsoggySo sliced bread feel the effects more.( white, rye , wheat etc etc Crusty breads are a better way to goLucky Dragon, Lettuce also ( when cut) bleeds( water).
The contents of water in some foods are very highYou are getting the moisture from the sandwich itselfThe juices of the tomato and lettuce are mainly the ones that get your bread moist.
Its the tomato and probably the mayonnaise or mustardKeep the mayo/mustard at work and wait to put it onKeep the lettuce and tomato in a seperate ziplock bag until you eat your sandwichI had that problem tooThe sandwich will taste fresh and not be soggy if you just make it at work instead of putting it all together at homeHope that makes sense :)
It has to do with the fact that you're putting tomatoes and lettuce on the sandwichWashing the toppings would not make a difference on the amount of liquid inside the actual food If it's really a problempack something else, or put the items in separate containers until you're ready to eat.
You need to keep in mind R valueRoughly speaking, this is a measure of how good insulation is at insulatingThe higher the R number, the better the insulationYes, fiberglass is itchy stuff to work with, but it is excellent insulation for the moneyYou can but it in rolls (bats), or have it blown inBefore WW2, newspaper slugs were commonly used as insulation(My own house, built in 1939 had it, until I replaced it.) You may be able to find it somewhere yet (I've never tried, so not sure where)I've never heard of anybody using wool or hemp as insulationI wouldn't imagine it would be very goodIn any event, depending upon where you live, it may cause you astronomical heat bills by using itRemember - wet wool is worthlessIf you REALLY want top of the line insulation, consider foam insulation, installed by a professionalVery expensive, but very, very high R valueIf I could have my whole house insulated in it - I would love it! Good luck!
