Answer:

she should go see an OBGYN and get on birth control pillsit usually helps with cramps and other period related problemshope this helps
They are often caused by dehydrationShe should drink a lot of water, over a liter a dayA hot pad or hot water bottle can also help.
There is no a universal answer for this question because cramps in different people can be caused by different problemsThe basic differentiation is excess vs deficiency type of cramps: do you feel worse or better with pressure/hot on your abdomen? If you have cramps AND you become easily ANGRY during your PMS, then having orgasm will help (I won't go into details of Chinese Medicine about pathomechanism of it here)If your abdomen feels cold AND it feels better with pressure, then heating your belly with anything will help (moxa is the best, a hairdryer, a hot bottle)You should keep warming your middle and lower abdomen until it can sustain warmth for at least 5 secIf the pain is very sharp and goes away after you pass clots, then you better see acupuncturist because it's blood stagnationShe will give you few treatments and herbs and you should be fineThe other possibility is that you might have a structural misalignment in a hip area that could be fixed by going through vaginal deliveryThese are only few possibilities just to show that it's not so straight forward.
If you dont want to loose muscle reduce your cardio.and keep your cardio to low intensity workouts so that it uses fat instead of carbs and protein which is what you need to keep your musclesBut if you keep doing weights they shouldnt reduce in size
