Question:

Machining cost vs drawing cost?

I need to make an aluminum part that's the shape of an open box, with rounded edgesThe dimension is similar to that of an Altoid box, or a deck of playing card.If I machine it out of a block of aluminum, there will be no tooling cost, but the per unit cost will be expensive right? If I make it by drawing, then the per unit cost will be cheaper but there will be a steep tooling cost right?can anyone give me a rough guess how much it'll cost to machine?

Answer:

push a grocery cart for 45 minutes

Brown Rice!! Avoid: pasta, bread, white-rice and potatoes.
Fiber foods are better because you feel like you've eaten something, you get that sensation rather than just taking a pillBe sure to drink lots and lots of water too, otherwise you'll be constipated from all that fiber!
These guys turn around really fast quotes, and have capacity for stampings and machined partsThey are a Just-In-Time manufacturer, so their prices are higher than many machine shops, but they can talk you through the cost of tooling and suchI don't know the cost of stamping tooling so I can't comment about the break even point as far as how many units are cheaper one way vs another way.
