Question:

math word problem help?

In a suspension bridge the shape of the suspension cables is parabolic.the bridge shown figure has towers that are 400 m apart that and the lowest point of the suspension cables is 100 m below the top of the towers.find the equation of the parabolic part of the cables placing the origin of the coordinate system at the lowest point of the cable.

Answer:

45psi max. that is a standard for all automobile tires no matter how thin. the only exception is monster tires.
i would set the tires at 35 psi
The tire's recommended PSI is max so you can go upto that. The car's recommended PSI might not be for those specific tires.
(Oh. When we had the suspension bridge problem, it was a catenary curve, not a parabola! Oh well.) Ok, a parabola. I take it the middle is the lowest part, so we're after an equation with (0,0) at the lowest part, and at x -200 and at x +200, the curve is +100 (everything in meters. I guess I'd try y a * x^2 + b, find a and b. And b is obviously 0. y ax^2, so a y/(x^2). When x is + or - 200, y 100, so we'll plug those in a 100 / (200^2) 100 / (4 * 100^2) 1/400, or 0.0025 Does that do it?
