Question:

Motorcycle cone weave?

I‘m currently taking the MSF course and it seems i have difficulty doing the cone weave and the u-turn Does anyone have suggestion because what the MSF people are telling me dont help at all and the test is tomorrow

Answer:

In NSW, Australia we have similar tests in that you do the MSF course and test all on the same day and it is in 1 day (8 hours). My problem was I tensed up and found I kept knocking the hats over and as for the U-turn (I definitely couldn't keep it in the lines and kept putting my foot on the ground) found out after the test was finished that the trial tests were a lot tighter than the actual due to the amount of space. The Instructor (fab bloke) pulled me out of the group (of 6) and had me doing large circles slowly tightening them and looking at no-one else but his left shoulder. Then gave me the best advice that helped me to pass with not 1 cone dropped not to mention successfully complete the U-turn.RELAX! and loosen those darn hips!. If you are able to practice, just sit in first gear on a straight quiet road/ car-park and using the slow speed technique that you have been taught keeping your head up and loose hips see if you can move the bikes direction from your hips only holding the handle bars. Do circles making each successive circle smaller (the MSF instuctor has it spot on for the descibing the slow speed technique and it also is a huge help in controlling the motorcycle) When it comes to your u-turn look at the instructor who will be marking you as you do the test, and you will complete the u-turn without realising it. The advice of don't look at the ground, keep your head up don't look at the cones is so right, because where you look will be where you go. Good luck and hope you pass Safe riding have fun and RELAX
Dont look at the cones!! Just focus on a point in front of you, If you look down at the cones Thats where you'll go! Same with the U-turn, Just dont look down at the floor, always hold you head straight and forward and look where you want to go. Hope this helps Good Luck.
i took the class too. when doing the cones i found that once i was moving it was easier to be going faster than slower. it is easier to keep the bike balanced that way. look forward to where you are going not down at the cones too. i was the only girl in my class and never once was on a bike i did better than most of the boys, just relax that was the best thing that i did for myself. good luck! my boyfriend took me. vtx is a MAN. i just thought that i could answer this better than him.
