Question:

How do I stop my cat from scratching and pooping on the bathroom rug?

My 2 year old female has taken up the habit of scratching and soiling rugs in our bathroom. We wash or replace the rug, but she keeps doing it! We also clean out the litterbox everyday, and wash it once a week. She also has multiple scratching posts, toys, etc. She eats only hard food and has clean water on a daily basis. We also have 1 other male cat who is 3. Please help! NO STUPID ANSWERS!

Answer:

When my grandma's cat started using the top of her coffee table as a litter box the cat trainer she asked told her to put a similar feeling material underneath the litter box. It worked, a few wood boards under the box and the cat never pooped on the coffee table again. You might try putting a rug under your litter box
Old Cat Lady is right. Listen to your elders. OK sorry that was stupid. I would just sorta tap them on the head or spray them when they do that, or take the rugs out of the b-room and replace them w mats.
Stop the poo- Whenever you see her about to do a poo if you can pick her up and put her in the litterbox. Try doing this as much as you can and when she does it reward her with a little treat. Or if you see her going towards the rug stomp your foot or spray near her with just water which will scare her away for a while. A good thing to help cats used the scratch post- hold her two front paws and gently make a scratching motion with them onto the scratch post. When cats do this it makes their claws come out and produces something that makes them recognize it as a spot for them to scratch. goodluck
The rugs may have 'litterbox smell on them now. Try using an enzymatic cleaner on them. You can find the cleaner at the pet store. The other option is to not put down the rugs for a bit until kitty gets used to the box again and forgets about the rugs....
I took the rugs up from my bathrooms because a male cat liked to wet on them whenever they were down and I got tired of washing them all the time. He uses a litterbox. You do say you clean the litterBOX well. You certainly should try getting one to two more boxes since you have two cats. Take up the rugs and try a new box or two and see what happens.
