Answer:

I think you enjoyed your little flirtation with this guy and that's why you didn't put a stop to it a long time ago. So what is it that you really want? Do you want to stay married to your husband and not cheat on him? Do you want to stay married but be able to tease and flirt with the guy next door as long as you don't get caught? Here's the bottom line: As everyone else has already said, do not have any contact with the man next door or his wife. Ever, for any reason. Don't talk TO them, and for crying out loud, don't talk ABOUT them. If that means changing your home telephone number and getting new cell phones, then do it. If the guy next door is staring at your house and throwing eggs at your house, call the police. Take pictures, or get out your camcorder and take video. Make certain that your camera can do a date and time stamp. Digital cameras can, and so can most camcorders. Your husband probably needs to look for another job.
Remove the smoke detector from it's mount and inspect the hidden side of it. Most of the older units had concealed 9V batteries that eventually die, like every 6 months or so. The alternative is that the unit itself has failed and must be replaced. Even if it has no battery, the alarm condition tells you it needs to be removed and either the battery or the unit needs to be replaced. I had one that lasted more than 12 years, but that is twice normal life for them. Either way it must be removed to be fixed.
