my automatic garage door closes then in same cycle opens right back up what can i do?

Answer:

Most likely you have some cob webs and junk hanging from the bottom of your garage door, and as the door gets lower the stuff on the bottom of the door breaks the plane of your electronic eye and opens the door again. to fix this problem simply take a broom and run it along the bottom of your garage door, and try again.
Since the door is going all of the way down before reversing, it is not the electric eyes (if your opener has them). There are three adjustments on the opener, up travel, down travel and downforce. The travel is a multi-turn adjustment that sets how far the door moves in each direction. The downforce sets how much resistance the door must see before it decides that it is blocked and reverses. Before you start to adjust, disengage the door from the opener (there should be a rope hanging from the latch) and see if it travels up and down OK by hand. You should be able to tell if you have an obstruction, a bad roller, bent track, or a broken spring that way. If the door moves OK by hand, re-engage it and start by backing off on the down travel adjustment 1/4 turn. This should make the door stop sooner on the down travel. Adjust so the door just touches the floor. Adjust the downforce so that if you pull up on the door while it is closing, it will change direction and open. After both are set check operation by placing an obstruction about 1 thick on the floor. The door should hit that and reverse.
Garage Door Opens And Closes
First make sure nothing is inbetween the eyes at the bottom of door on the right and left side. Also check to see if there is a red light on one and a green light on the other, And that they are not flasing. If you dont see a light on them try to adjust them to face eachother and the lights should come one. If this is not the problem then the down force may be too much it can be adjusted on the back of the opener. you can also adjust how far the door closes
