Question:

My dog pees in the sofa. How do I stop him?

He is 3 years old and fixed. He pees on the couch all the time. He does this right after going out to do his stuff!! He is a good dog, very obedient and quiet. The couch smells bad and no one can sit there now. If I put a cover over the couch, he'll pee the cover too. What do I do? I am getting MAD! Also, is there a way to take the smell out of the couch? I actually feel like throwing it out.

Answer:

Use white vinegar to get the smell out, and after wards use fabric softener or something to make it smell nice. If your dog does it again, tell him off, then take him outside where he should be having a pee. This may take a few times to get him used to knowing not to pee on the sofa. Also, when my dog tried to jump on the sofa when i don't want her too, i use nail varnish remover to get her of if she carries on jumping on the sofa because she doesn't like the smell; it's too strong. Try that to stop him peeing on it, it's a bit of a long shot but it's worth a try. If all else fails, get a new sofa, but hopefully it won't come to that. Good luck!
1. On the command 'sit', press the dog's hindquarters firmly down with your left hand while keeping the dog's head supported in the air. 2. Keep the lead taut in the right hand, giving it a slight upwards pull as you press the hindquarters down to help the dog respond. 3. Crouching down beside, but not over, the dog may prove helpful in teaching more unruly dogs to perform the exercise.
House-train - is lost when it is no longer enforced Peeing in your new sofa, after the incident where your dog first peed in your new sofa, it is no longer a new sofa because he has already marked that territory so unless you buy a new sofa or use a odor-remover (pet supplies have this) your dog will continue to pee in this same area always. I suggest if you have time to do this, OBSERVE your dog, what time he usually pees in this same area although tedious, you could time him and when he is about to pee you immediately take him out of the house or remove him from that spot so he wouldn't pee there.
The first thing to do is througly clean your sofa and the spots he's peeing, dogs noses are alot stronger than human's noses and all though you might think you've cleaned the urine up there will still be traces of it, this is intisein your dog to go back and pee again and again, Its almost like a sign is up saying PEE HERE! you need to use a strong disinfectent cleaner and really scrub it. After the sofa has had a really good clean if your dog goes to pee on the sofa again then use a quick and snappy AAHAA which usally works well for dogs other wise use a NO but only say it once - do NOT over use the word, and as your sayin this remove your dog from the sofa and straight outside, if you only do this 3 or 4 times it will click in your dogs head that the sofa is not a place to pee, and that outside it! if your dog sits on the spot on the sofa without going to the toilet, give him a nice treat and say good boy in a really happy voice, half the time dogs do NOT understand what you are saying but do understand the tone, eventually rule the treats out and you will have finished the process and be left with a dog that doesnt pee!
Put his lazy behind outside in a dog house where all dogs belong. It's disgusting how some people will treat a stinking dog better than they will a human being. Now your house is all funky it's not like the dog can help you clean the sofa. So what is the purpose of having a dog in the house. They mess up and the owner has to clean behind them. It also sounds like you haven't been training or walking the dog properly.
