Question:

My drivers side windshield wiper is broken. It moves about an inch up and then gets stuck.?

Does the blade need to be replace or is it the motor or something else?

Answer:

If it's only the drivers side, it's probably the wiper arm. The spline (teeth) may have worn away. If you take the nut off at the base of the wiper arm and pull it off, you'll be able to see if there are any teeth left. If that looks OK, it may be the control arm that connects the wiper arm to the motor. That's usually a bit more complicated, depending upon the vehicle but will probably require a shop repair /or part.
You probably have bad CV joints. When you buy the halfshafts the CV joints are with it.
The arm probably needs to be reinstalled or replaced. Usually not at all expensive. You should always carry spare blades as when you need them yours seem to be out of stock everywhere.
There is an arm that connects the windshield wiper to the motor. This arm has either broken or simply became disconnected. You can usually see or access this arm from an opening in the cowl. You can usually see this when you open the hood and look at the base of the windshield. Sometimes you may need to remove an access panel.
