Question:

My engine light is on in my 01 escort zx2. went to advance auto for a computer test it came out system lean?

My car is running fine but the engine light came on one day.. I took it to advance auto for a free computer reading and it cam out with system or car running lean..I ask the guy he said it could be the O2 sensor? I don't have the money right now to take to a mechanic .. what could it be? and where are the O2 sensor locate in a 2001 ford escort zx2 ?. maybe I can change them.. Thanks

Answer:

try a bottle of fuel treatment and a new filter first 10 bucks and autozone can help you with the other will give you a print out if you ask that might help
it could be the 02 sensor. unhook the battery, unplug the wire that goes to the sensor, take a wrench and unscrew the sensor and screw the new 1 back in, hook up the wire and the battery.the sensor is usually either on the manifold or in the exhaust pipe.
dont know much about a zx2 but o2 sensor is usually inside the throttle body, and if you don't really know what ya doing it's best you dont touch it so nothing else goes astray. A good mechanic will be able to say whether its your o2 sensor or something stopping the throttle body from working properly, and they can replace it for you. what you could do is see if any wires are loose on the sensor and see iff its shorting out anywhere, that could be giving th ecu bad readings. how lean is it running? if its not using too much fuel you dont have to let it worry you until you have the money to get it fixed. oi at the person below, I may be wrong but the o2 sensor has nothing to do with fuel, only measuring the volume of air comin g into the intake manifold controlled by your throttle bodyor that may be the map sensor lol. and the injectors are behind the throttle body and sensor, but correct me if im wrong, im only here to help
The o2 sensor is screwed into the exhaust manifold, or screwed into the exhaust pipe just behind the exhaust manifold. It reads the amount of burned or unburned fuel in the exhaust of your engine. the sensor sends a report to your cars computer of it's findings and the computer corrects the problem if there is a problem. The guy that said it was the o2 sensor was most likely telling you correct. When the sensor goes bad, it will either lie to the computer, or withhold it's info completely. Now for the best way to learn the location of the o2 sensor. Stop by an independent automotive shop, (or your Ford dealer) raise your hood and ask a mechanic to point to the o2 sensor. Not being a smartass here, I have found this works for the ladies without fail every time. Or at least it works this way in the great state of Texas.
i doubt it is the o2 sensor if the computer said that it was running lean that means that your fuel mixture is off
