my furnice is admitting a smokey kro smell out of the heating vents..?

there is not ant smoke that i can see but there is a disdinct oil burnig smell that is coming out of the vents...anyone knoe what that could mean and could i fix it.

Answer:

This could be a faulty motor. Turn your furnace on so it's pumping heat, get next to it, and listen to where the blower is. If it is a dead motor, you will most likely hear some buzzing and humming (sometimes screaching) coming from it. You can open up the blower motor compartmen after you shut the furnace down again, and most likely you will see an oil spot where the motor has been leaking. You can get the motor replaced for about $200-$250 (CDN), which would include the motor, the service call and installation. Don't run your furnace without the motor working. This will over heat your heat exchanger and destroy your high limit switch (only a $40 part, but better to avoid it). If your high limit isn't working properly, your heat exchanger will crack and leak carbon monoxide.
Could have a cracked heat exchanger , if so you need a new furnace . Call a HVAC company to check it out like now .
Get it checked out by a professional before you get carbon monoxide poisoning.
