How long are you using it? How old is it? I used to have a pretty old IBM laptop that would overheat every 30 minutes, we got a fan that you stick underneath it to keep it cool and it would run much longer. Laptops shouldn't be kept on for too long anyway, they aren't made for intense usage, Desktops are, and using a laptop for very long periods of time isn't safe for it. Also I am talking about basic laptops in general, some laptops are made to withstand long periods of time, most new laptops are. But it all depends on the computer itself, and the more you know about your computer, the better you can care for it.
