Question:

my mustang squeaks when i brake,do i have to change the whole rotor?

i have a 99 mustang and every time i press on the brakes,i hear these high and annoying squeaks.i wanted to know if i have to change all the rotors or if there is a way that it can be repaired without me having to fully replace them.which is the best option and whats the average amount that a job like this cost at the shop?

Answer:

cold air intake sucks lot of air into engine and gain more hp than stock and normal air intake. i like AEM or HSK cold air intake.
I run KN on my vehicles, cold air intakes wil give you a small 10-15hp boost that really only improve the throttle response of your vehicle.Oh and kN has a one million mile warranty on all of their filters and they can be cleaned/rechared with a kit you can buy at you local parts house.
the rotors wont have to be changed for a long time. it depends how many miles are on them. not the same as how many miles are on your car you porb just need 2 change the pads. take it 2 a shop and have them measure the width of the rotors to see if they need 2 be changed.
You might not need new rotors,it could just be the sensor making that noise because your pads are low.You can go to Les Shwab for a free honest brake check.Cost is about $150-$200 or more with rotors they are like $30 a piece. They might be able to just resurface the rotor if it needs it which is usally inclused in the base price.Ask Les Schwab to give you the measurments of the rotors so you know how much you have to go.
Depending on how well maintained the braking system is you more than likely wont have to replace the rotors, chances are your pads are worn, that squeak you hear when applying the brakes as opposed to when just cruising and hearing them squeak is more than likely caused by glazed pads. glazing means your pads have become glassy smooth instead of their original gritty appearance. Replace your pads and if your rotors have large grooves in them but aren't that deep take your rotors to a machine shop to be turned. Some auto parts stores also turn rotors for cheap or free. back when i was in the business it cost $80 per side in labor plus the cost of the parts with a 40 to 80% markup. My advice to everyone is to speak with a friend who is mechanically inclined, as well as pick up a book on your car and learn how to do it yourself. its cheaper and gives you an intimate understanding of how your car works. Also the tools needed for the job are relatively cheap. When doing a 4 wheel disk brake job including rotors at a shop it may cost you around $300 - $600. when doing it yourself it wont cost you more than the parts tools and the occasional band-aid (about $200 or so for your car, and $1.40 for the pack of band-aids.)
