Question:

Replace Tires?

my sister and i were driving, and we bumped into a curb, and the back left tire just went flat, so we rushed to the nearest gas stationwe put air in itbut unfortunately, it didnt work. so we had to call the towing service and payed 55 dollars to change with spare tire.but he found a bubble in the front left tire. (explain please) and he said u would have to replace BOTH left tiresthe model is a volkswagon ‘06 passat and the tires michelin? Pilot? MXM4?. and the cars crappy overall, but we don‘t feel like paying 500+ for tires. the volkswagon dealership services our car once in a while.and we have car insurance.anything that would cover this would be appreciated

Answer:

the flat on the rear measns you more than likely broke the bead of the tire, thats where the tire meets the rim,and the bubbled tire yes definitely change that it is definitely a safety issueif i were you i would just replace your tires
The tire must be replaced, as it is unsafe to drive with a bubble on it. The bubble was due to hitting the curb. There is no need to replace both tires, unless they are worn down. There is no coverage unless you bought the road hazard, and therefore would be covered. I have to agree with you, the tire is an expensive one, as I work for a tire dealer.
The bubble is caused from the cords in the sidewall of the tire breaking. That tire is def garbage. As far as replacing both tires I wouldn't unless the other tire had little life left in it.
