just look up precious metal dealers in your area no its not stupid i personally dont trust the dollar these days i wouldnt go that route myself .
If you have $1,000 to invest you are better off in a CD, maybe a one year term. Silver is going nowhere but down as Quantitative Easing begins to unwind. Same goes for gold. Plus, you will pay a sale commission going in, and then you have a non-liquid asset that will cost you a commission to get out of. It's not worth farting around with for a $1,000 investment.
As you know, I use 2-piece sticks. Not sure of those will suit your game best but everyone should have a reliable back-up.
