Question:

My Water HeateR Vent Is Broken, Am I In Danger?

My waterheater vent is broken, is my life in danger? Is it ok of it stays off over night? Is it poisonous to me if I leave it off?I sleep right by it.

Answer:

It's a gas, honeyAre gases metal or metalloid?
Many pure non-metals are usually not ready for human use in a common householdExAll the gases, sulfur, potassium, calcium etcThey are also more reactive and dangerous (Exsodium in water BOOM!) Metals on the other hand are the opposite, they are more stable, and more readily used That's what I would sayand elaborate from there!
Slip the vent tube back on the flangeThey don't just break off unless there is an earthquakeIt's 4 inch aluminum vent tube and the installer probably forgot to tack it onto the flange with a couple of sheet metal screwsDon't leave the gas heater on if the exhaust vent pipe is disconnected because carbon-monoxide will build up in the living spaceSame thing goes for PVC on 90% heater models but the PVC tube may have slipped out of the rubber hose clamp.
