Question:

My windshield wipers come on once in a while when they are turned off? What is causing this?

Just to start off, I have a 99 ford mustang. A year back, my car started to turn the windshield wipers on for a few seconds when I would turn the turn signal on and halfway make the turn. It didn‘t do it all of the time but very seldom. (once every couple months) Now, I will just be driving with the windshield wipers off and it will all of the sudden turn on. It will vary with the degree of which it stays on. Sometimes it just flips up once, others times it lasts for 5 to 10 minutes lol. A few times it will go up a few times then start to go up again but stop midway. (this stuff happens every time I drive now) Anyhow, when this happens I can try all I want to turn them off with the switch but they wont turn off. I have also tried to make it happen when its not acting up by jiggling the switch in different ways and configurations but I wont replicate it. So is it the multiswitch or a relay or something else? Also around how much would it cost to repair if anyone knows. Thanks

Answer:

Sounds like a bad wiper switch since the relay is controlled by the switch. An auto electric repair shop may be able to give you an estimate but you may to pay the hourly rate since electrical problems can be very hard to diagnose and fix.
A sensor in the wiper motor needs to be replaced. This has happened to me randomly and I finally got a mechanic to fix the problem with a new sensor. It cost me about $110.00
The ones I ve known seem natural enough !!
I t sounds to me that the wires that are going to your wipers to make them work are touching other wires . This will make your wipers go off at random times because its only when the wires touch each other that it sparks them to go off. I had them same problem happen with my radio in my car and that was the cause. I f you could find someone to check all your wires then it would cost you nothing.
