Question:

Need help with my portable generator - no power output?

I own a Chinese made diesel generator. 10HP, 5kW, which recently stopped putting out power. The generator head has three separate power outputs; 120VAC (#1) 120VAC (#2) and 12VDC for battery charging. All three ceased output simultaneously. I've tried re-exciting or flashing the alternator, which didn't do anything other than make it knock when it generated a magnetic field.I've been told my voltage regulator may have failed, but I have no knowledge of how the AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) on the high-voltage side may work to verify.Ideas? Thanks!

Answer:

Some have safety fuses or circuit breakers to safeguard Voltage spikes. Check also for a switch which enables the generator once the deisel moter has been started. This link may help as well
