Question:

need some trouble shooting for windshield wipers?

we heard a clunk and that was it no windshield wipersthis is for a 96 pontiac bonnivillewould appreciate any information you give thanks

Answer:

Sounds like the arm that transfers motion from the motor to the wiper blades has come off; if you're still hearing the motor run, but not getting any motion, try looking to see how the arm attaches on another car. If you're not hearing the motor run at all, then it's probably toast.
THERE COULD BE A FEW FACTORS, AND GOOD 'OL GM IS KNOW FOR A FEW OF THESE. ONE COULD BE THE CLUNK WAS THE MAIN NUT ON THE MOTOR HAD COME OFF AND THE 'BAR' THAT MOVED YOUR WIPERS HAS FALLEN. TWO, COULD BE THE MOTOR BUT CHECK THE FUSE FIRST. AT TIMES AS WELL, I'VE SEEN THE BACK HOUSING OF THOSE MOTORS GET GUMMED UP AS THERE ARE SMALL VENTS TO COOL THE MOTOR - YOU CAN, AT TIMES SPRAY CONTACT CLEANER (AND NOT EYE CONTACT CLEANER) INTO THE HOLES AND GIVE IT ANOTHER GO. IF ALL ELSE FAILS, THEN IT'S REPLACEMENT TIME, AND NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO DO - IF YOU HAVE GENERAL MECH. SKILLS YOU CAN DO THE WHOLE THING IN A COUPLE HOURS, AND PROBABLY SAVE YOURSELF 2-500.00 CHEERS, KC
sounds like something came apart look under the cowl where the wipers are you might have to remove the wipers and some screws from the wiper panel the cowl look in side and let me know what you see
