Need someone that knows something about brakes on Freightliner Straight-trucks rented to fleets by RYDER?

Can someone tell me the difference between a push-rod and slack adjuster located on the brake drum? Plus what is there main objective? Is it the brake cylinder that is located on the axles? Plus, if you know where the Air Compressor is located at under the hood and what it looks like that would be tremendously helpful? If you could send me a link to a picture of them, that would be awesome?

Answer:

Flush the cooling system. Washer fluid can have some pretty strong cleaners that your seals and gaskets might not take too well to.
The only thing you might notice is that there will be a foam build-up in the resevoir from the wiper fluid cleaner, but other than that, it will be ok.
A push rod type system also know as a wedge system is just a different style of braking system to a slack ajuster system also known a 'S' cam system, on both there specific purpose is to convert compressed air pressure to a mechanical braking system to make the drivers job easier to stop the heavy load/ vehicle, The large air boosters that are mounted on the rear axles have a huge coil spring in them and thats how the vehicles park brake system works so if there is no compressed air inside the boosters the spring will over ride and apply the brakes but usually there is no coil spring on the front brakes just a single acting pressure booster system. If it has a cummins engine the compressor will be located at the front of the engine at the front left corner of the truck the compressor will integrated behind the timing gears it will not have belts that run to it ,It will be around 12 inchs long and around 12 inchs tall and approx 5 inchs wide and it should have a grey color governor with a black plastic cover over the end, there will also be a 1 inch diameter pipe running from the intake manifold of the engine to the side top of the compressor and at the rear of the top there will be a braided pressure fitting that go's to your wet tank( that's your primary air tank that you drain daily)
the push rod stick out of the can the slack adjuster connects to the push rod. The push rod pushes the slack adjuster which in turn turns the cam rod activating the breaks. The slack adjuster adjust the slack out of the rear breaks to compensate foe the wear on the shoes. The compressor is located on the engine block has 2 belts that drive it looks similar tp the old York air conditioning compressors. usually on the upper drivers side of the engine. Good luck
