Question:

New Metal music, possibly progressive?

Hi, can you suggest me some new band?I like metal/rock, for example:Classic:metallica, megadeth, iron maiden, slayerNew metal: mainly bullet for my valentine and escape the fateNew rock:blink-182, sum41Are there new (possibly born after 2001 and has released new albums recently) bands which incorporate metal/rock and stuff like synths or digital pads?Don't say:Muse, Radiohead, Dream Theater, Between the Buried and MeP.S: I don't like Death Metal AT ALL. My limit is probably Bring Me The Horizon (which i don't like that much to be honest), you know, without death/gore stuff.

Answer:

Slipknot's angsty death metal in my opinion.
Slipknot is heavy metal. In fact, I am a fan of heavy metal and fell in love with this band when they came out with their song Psychosocial.
In order to be classified as metal a band does not just have to be heavy, but it also needs to include heavy metal song structures etc. Slipknot's sound is heavy, but it's mostly dropped down power chords and their structures and general sound doesn't really fit the characteristics of metal. I think the best way to classify them is alternative metal, not heavy metal, not even nu-metal (they don't have too much rap in their songs as far as I know). Alternative metal means that the band is metal, but it's stylistically different.
Josh, don't waste your time worrying about categories, it's all irrelevant. If you like them and consider them metal (I do) who gives a f#@% about what some other idiot thinks!!! There are no fine lines in music, genres all blend together somewhere - have you heard the S M album by Metallica - a lot of people would never think that Classical and Metal music are so close in structure. Is that album Metal, Classical or another genre, does it matter - NO!!! Enjoy your music and don't give a crap what others think.
It is heavy metal! It's just that people made up like 50 new genres of metal. So it falls under nu-metal which falls under heavy metal which falls under metal which falls under rock and roll. You see how silly and complicated this all gets. Some self proclaimed experts would probably say I still didn't write this out correctly. It's music. Good music. It definitely falls under heavy metal. Why do we need to get so specific and nit-picky?? I'm done ranting now lol.
