i have a 96 camaro it has a 3800 v6 motor and i was taking my air intake off and found some oil in the air box now on most of my cars i have found a light spray of oil but in this one you could see some i do not know if this is something normal or if it builds up after time if you don‘t clean it and could that be the cause of spitting and sputtering i carb cleaned it and a lot of black came out i am letting it dry right now what else could i do to help clean the motor inside i thought about sea phoning it but is there any better products that i will see some improvement please let me know thanks

pcv valves are hard parts. just clean it with gas. if it rattles, you're good. but an auto store will be glad to sell you one anyway. seafoam's a good product. prolly did an good job cleaning the intake and combustion chambers. sometimes, it takes more than spraying to clean everything. might use that stuff to do a *physical* cleaning of induction sensors. if the issues arises again, fairly quickly, you might do a compression/leak down test. that's one indication of to much blow-by passed the compression rings.
Have you ever changed the PCV valve? Most likely how the oil is getting in this location in the first place. These should be changed about every other oil change. Sea Foam is about the best I found for cleaning this area. However use with caution. If this is the first time cleaning an air intake and you dump a lot of sea foam down the intake, it is possible that when all of the gunk is dislodged is will make its way to the catalytic converter. If too much of this hits the catalytic converter at one time it can clog the catalytic converter. Dump some in the fuel tank according to the Sea Foam instructions. Do this for a couple of tanks. Then clean the intake. You can also run this stuff in the oil before an oil change. Again, follow the instructions. This will help remove some sludge.
