Question:

Cold Air Intake For My 1995 Cougar XR7?

Okay, well I‘ve decided to mod my 1995 Mercury Cougar XR7 a little bit, for some horsepower, but mainly gas mileage for now.Well I have two questions:How do you install cold air intake on a cougar xr7(They make no kits for it)?Do you need a tuner after you put in the Cold Air Intake?

Answer:

First off, your Cougar already has a cold air intake and you can spend money on a different one but you won't really get better gas mileage, in fact because you will probably be putting more air into the system, the ECU will compensate and your gas mileage will actually go down. As for more hp, you probably won't notice the difference it's so small. With most aftermarket CAIs you get to pay about $30-$40 for each one horsepower increase. To me they are not worth the money.
save your money, if you have fuel injection, look under the hood and follow the intake over to the fender, that is a cold air intake, none of that crap, does what it says, but dont believe me, ask your mechanic, and he will say the same thing. If any of this plastic crap actually worked it would be on cars already. And same goes for those sooper dooper 400 hp performance chips, it is all lies, no chip can give you hp and gas mileage, and no plastic sewerpipe with an air filter stuck to it is going to improve mileage. Keep your money, in your pocket, you can buy a lot of gas for what the cai and a performance chip cost, is what 600 bucks? that is a lot of gas money thier wildman. ask your mechanic.
you should be able to go into any auto shop and purchase a aftermarket air intake but if you want to go cheaper OKorder is great its easy to install you can buy kits and you dont need to retune your car for intake
