Question:

Old cat pee on leather sofa?

A friend of mine has a leather sofa that he has told me he would let me borrow for my apartment. The down side is that the couch was peed on repeatedly by a cat. I don't think that the urine was properly cleaned and has been in storage for years. Is there anyway to clean the leather after so much neglect?

Answer:

Is the surface damaged in any way? Depending on the quality, there are things you can do to repair it. use rubbing alcohol to wipe down the area, which should remove any odors present on the surface. The real issue is if it damaged the material or soaked into the cushions. Most quality sofas have access to the cushion cores and backrest foam to replace if it soaked in. If it is in the foam, no amount of cleaning the surface will remove the smell, it is fairly cheap and easy to replace the foam.
Cleaning the leather is one issue. The other issue is if the urine soaked thru the leather into the stuffing of the sofa, that will have to be cleaned as well. The only thing that works on animal urine is an enzyme cleaner, such as Nature's Miracle. If the urine is only on the cushions, it would be easy to change the padding. Good luck!
Make up a answer of one million/third white vinger and excellent up with water in a twig bottle, spray on and go away for 5 minutes, wipe off, it may want some is going, even though it fairly works and receives rid of the scent!!
