I have a 1988 Baliner I had problems with the shift cable so I put a new one on an the problem is still there. It shifts fine out of the water but as soon as i put it in the water it gives me problems when i shift from drive to neutral an from reverse to neutral it feels like it binds up.i do not understand it works fine out of the water can you help please.

2 things . One is on that model you need to adjust the cable in the water. Two the problem is in the clutch cone and not the cable. This is one of the most misdiagnosed problems. Maybe three things. Make sure their are no Extreme bends in the cable and you haven't tied anything to the cables closer than three feet from the control box.
