Question:

on a hot summer day you put both your hands on a 420kg fire yellow hydrant.?

this is attached properly to an underground water pipe. with all your might. you push east on that fire hydrant for exactly 60 minutes. it did not move. how much work did you do?

Answer:

Only if it becomes a recurrent theme in your house!
in my area, they let you get away with that once. each time after that it a 100 dollar fine.
Not under those circumstances. However, if you turn in an alarm on purpose, that is false, then yes you would be fined. Pretty hefty fine too.
Smoke detector sensors have a shelf life. After 10 years, they do start to deteriorate. Some companies want the smoke detector to fail in the alert mode so you realize something is wrong and get it fixed. If it failed but didn't alarm, the detector could be on, have new batteries, and still not alert when smoke was detected. So, in this case, the manufacturers concern for your safety makes the alarm much more sensitive and even turn on for no reason.
It is CERTAINLY a finable offense to set off false fire alarms. And some fire depts. are NOW billing people for the whole episodedispatching fire trucks, personnel costing thousands of dollars!! Based on your question I hope your smoke detector isn't hot wired directly to your fire dept. If so GET IT OFF NOW!
