Pretty sure a regular Ethernet cable is only needed. By the way, yes, there is such a thing. The optional 3.15 update adds a Data Transfer Utility, which allows you to transfer all your PS3 data from one PS3 to another via LAN connection. However, it appears that everything on the receiving PS3 is overwritten by the incoming data. Not too sure how that works, though.
