Question:

our washing machine drains into a wash basin. there is a drain filter that keeps getting clogged with lint and

the basin overflows and then i have to wet vac up the mess. my wife seems to be resistant to cleaning the lint out of the drain filter for every load. could i just leave the drain filter out permanently if they only thing being dumped into the basin is washing machine water and dirty water from when i flush the furnace? could either of these things eventually seriously clog the pipes if i leave the filter out?

Answer:

by pass the filter and tie a pillow case around the hose.it will take more water in and the lint wont clog .after use turn inside out wash and use again.try it you'll like it.
Truly, the only solution is to remove the lint after each load. If you remove the filter your pipes will clog. Which would your wife rather do ... remove the lint or pay someone an outrageous price to clean it out for her?
Yes, it could clog up the pipes......what I do is take one knee high panyhose and attach it to the hose that's draining into the laundry tub with a rubber band. Makesure it's securely attached.......or you'll really have a mess!! Just change the stocking when it's semi full. This is much easier than cleaning out the lint filter in the sink!!
The wife if she is a stay at home House Wife, she needs to take her function seriously and clean lint traps. If she does the same thing with the Dryer lint trap - it could catch fire and burn you and her out of house and home. It sounds like she doesn't think its a big deal. Show her it is and refuse to wet vac the floor - tell her to do it and if she don't, the floors will rot through. MAKE her a believer. I don't believe a marriage should be a stressful one, and I am not trying to encourage arguments between husband and wife - but trust me, women do not hesitate to make men a believer when given ultimatums. This is one instance where she will learn to clean the Lint Trap on the washer OR face vacuuming the water every time it gets clogged. Its easier to change the lint trap.
You're right, you risk a serious clog if you leave off the filter. Is she also resistant to cleaning the dryer lint trap after every load? Because she will burn your house down. Anyway, maybe a compromise would be to install a bigger basin? Or you could take over the laundry duties yourself.
