Question:

Penny-Holding Boat Challenge?

I my high school engineering class, we have to design a boat that is small enough to fit in our cupped hands and float in a 5-gallon bucket of waterThe only materials allowed are aluminum foil, toothpicks and glue of any kindThe boat must be able to hold as many pennies as possible without sinking, which is defined as when the boat starts taking on water (not when it goes below the water line)The top of the boat has to be open to allow the pennies to be added, and the boat cannot be so tall it extends past the top of the bucket, and it cannot touch the bottom. So far, I've got a 5quot;x3quot;x3quot; box with a frame made of toothpicks going along the edges and diagonally through the center of each face (except, the top, which is open for the pennies)Everything will be held together and sealed with super glueIs this the best boat design? Any ideas for what I can change about the structure or shape to make it hold more pennies?

Answer:

I use the chicken tenders (chicken breast slices) I buy when on saleCut into chunks, brown in margarine in tall sauce pan, add canned chicken broth or water and cx bullionBring to simmer and add carrots, celery and onionLet simmer , covered, while making the dumplings from the Bisquick recipe on the boxDrop dumplings on simmering chicken mixtureCook 10 minutes, cover and cook 10 minutes more, no peekingUse a dome lid or a deep sauce pan so there will be room for dumplings to expandWorks for meGood luck.
If any kind of glue could be usedThen I would advise you to use epoxy adhesivesAfter setting it will be like a plastic or rubber, and provide great water resistanceIn your place i would made a model of a boat from foil, and cover outside of it with a thick layer of epoxy.
Instead of useing biscuits why not buy the already made noodles or dumplings in your grocery I use them all the time there not to bad .
1/ take a pot larger than the chicken put in enough water to cover the chickenput on stove to heat2/ take the insides out of chicken remove most of the skinput chicken in pot and SIMMER, not hard boil, for about 2 hours or until the meat easily comes off3/ cut up 3-4 stalks of celery 1 medium onion into small pieces 1/2 bag of little peeled carrotsput into pot cook till soft4/ take your bisquits add salt, pepper, and maybe parsley to themtear your canned biscuits into pieces add to pot and cover pot until they are cooked thru5/ take 1/4 cup flour and add some chicken broth to that so it is liquidyadd to pot BOIL FOR 5 minutes so soup thickens you can add some frozen or canned peas if you wantalso, taste the broth add salt, pepper to taste.
Boil the fryer in a large pot with onions and celeryRemove the chicken, de-skin, shred and return to pot with the stockSimmer to let the stock reduce a littleAdd dumplingsSeason with salt, pepper, and poultry seasoning.
