Question:

plastic tube in tanks?

When i go to my local fish store some tanks have a small piece of PVC pipe in them, its just sitting on the bottem of the tankwhats it for?

Answer:

fish hide in them. a make-shift cave.
its so the fish have somewhere to go... i haveit specifically for my black ghost knofe and my blood parrot fish
If it is horizontal, then it is so the fish have someplace to hide
some fish like to have hidding places ,pvc would be a inexpensive way of doing that
There all right, fish love to hide in them. I have 5 inches of gravel with some small rolling hills so I bury a few so i don't actually see the plastic just the open ends. Don't go too tall as I think the fish prefer nook and crany caves over giant ones (like 2-3 inch pipe) but i guess it depends on the size of your fish.
