Please tell me what is a pre-amp and what does it do better? What is the additive effect?
There is no additive effect for line level sources. In the case of a phono (turntable) signal, the pre-amp brings the signal to line level returns the RIAA equalization required in the vinyl mastering process to a normal curve. In audiophile circles, pre-amps are separate pieces from power amps.A pre-amp's main job is to take signals from sources and route them to the power amp for transmission to the speakers. An integrated amp is a pre-amp power amp on the same chassis. By the same token, a receiver is an integrated amp that adds a tuner.
