Question:

pontiac montana brake fluid input?

i hav a pontiac montana and need to know how to put in the brake fluid. thanks in advance

Answer:

Get a long funnel or a peice of hose and preferebly an extra set of eyes. Also if you are having to add fluid you might want to check your rear wheel cylinders. Very common for those to leak on gm minivans.
Open the hood. On your right, there will be a round thing against the back wall of the engine compartment. That's the power brake booster. It's about the size of a couple medium serving bowls put together lip-to-lip. The things protruding from it are basically your power brake system. Among what is part of that is the brake fluid reservoir. The cap will have white or yellow wording on it that says to Only use DOT 3 approved brake fluid. What may also confuse some people is that the top of many reservoirs are not round caps. The whole reservoir top may pop off, like tupperware. The reservoirs are almost always made of white, polystyrene plastic (milk jug plastic), to make it easy to see the brake fluid level without the need to remove the cap. If you add fluid BE SURE to not get any contaminants into the reservoir. Clean the top of the reservoir before opening. observe the full mark and if there is black stuff in the bottom of the reservoir you should take the montana to a mechanic. Black muck in the bottom means that rubber seals in the brake system have deteriorated and that could cause brake failure and and accident.
