Possible Jail Time for Works Bomb?
My son is 18 and has been charged with criminal mischief and possession of criminal toolsHe and a friend saw the quot;works bombquot; on You Tube and decided to conduct their own science project A neighbor heard the explosion and called the policeThe deputy who took the report advised us at least one of the charges would be dropped the kids would probably get a fine and possibly probationHowever, at Mayor's court today (we live in a very small town) we were informed by the prosecuting attorney he may face possible jail time and a fine up to $1,000This is the first time he has ever been in trouble we feel misled by the arresting officer.

Did the arresting officer read your son the Miranda warning-because if he did not do that the case can be thrown out or reduced to misdemeanorThing is that nowadays with that huge terrorism scare the courts can't really be lenient, plus your son is looking at a felony.so do everything in your power to convince the state to drop the charges-because if they had criminal tools-who sold them those criminal tools-shouldnt those who sold criminal tools to minors be held responsible? I am writing you this because there are too many unanswered issues like that The miranda warning is a warning a cop got to give you when you get arrested, and also when they get you for interrogation(or interviewing)You have the right to remain silent because anything you say can be used in court-so if that wasn't given then the evidence needs to be thrown out-and then they have probably little to no case.and like I said, the other issue is WHO gave/sold the kids criminal tools? I would make a huge deal out of that one if I had a kid in trouble like yours.
