Question:

power connector under front bumper?

I am trying to see if anyone can tell me what is this connector is used for? under front bumper of 98 taurus there is a power connector ( power outlet) where you can plug a power cord.I have no idea what is it for? thx

Answer:

if you mean a house electrical cord, that would be the engine heater for winter.
it might be there to hook up some heat to your engine so it will be easier to start in the winter.
Block heater. Keeps motor oil warm so suckers who live in the frigid North can start their car in the mornings in order to drive through snow/ice to get to their menial rust-belt factory jobs. If lucky, the previous owner would also have a coolant heater, which will provide almost instant heat/defrost upon start-up.
As Doug said an engine heater, for very cold climates. They're used by quite a few people in cold weather as an engine that is warm starts a lot easier than an engine that is 30 below zero. In Alaska everyone uses them, some use two and the parking slots, in town, even have outlets to plug into. It's strange though that it would be an outlet (female) connector. If it is a four to seven pin female plug, it could be that the car was towed behind a Motor Home, at one time. The umbilical cable to connect the car to the Motor Homes light system uses a cable that requires at least four pins. Depending on what functions are used, such as auxillary braking systems, the cable could be up to seven wires.
