Question:

Power of Attorney Question Mother has Stage 5 Alz?

I am Seeking advise regarding a SS check. She was Diagnosed with Deimensia and Alz. I do have Durable Power of Attorney and want to know if I should cash it and use it and place it in a bank account which needs to be set up for her or if i should let her cash it and sqander it?

Answer:

You know the correct answer to this question. You need to do the right thing. Is your mother living alone? Who is paying her bills? If you are the POA, you need to make sure she is taken care of. Set up an account for her, make sure her bills are paid, and for the love of Pete, don't let her waste her money. Let her have an allowance so she still has some control.
Neither of you need to cash the check. You need to put it in a savings account for her (if not needed to pay her bills), or in a interest-bearing checking account. Spend only what is absolutely necessaryno splurging for either of you.
You have the powerit's up to you how it's done.but I would advise you get direct deposit set up.and be prepared to show paperwork that gives you the authority.
