Question:

pressing my fingers on guitar chords?

when i press my fingers on my guitars when doing certain chords, the base of my thumb starts to hurt, am i doing it wrong? if so, where should the force come from?

Answer:

You are probably pressing too hard with the thumb. You really shouldn't need to apply any pressure with the thumb in most cases. Your fingers alone should be able to press the strings down. You need to experiment with the exact amount of pressure to use to fret each string to get rid of this habit. It actually requires very little pressure to fret a string unless you have really high action or use a larger string gauge.
i had that problem before, try to move you thumb to a more comfortable position if it isn't bareble but otherwise if you keep practicing it will eventually stop. it stopped for me.
