Question:

Problem with 2007 PT Cruiser Check Engine Light?

So the past couple of days I have been driving my car with the check engine light on. I know, I should have gotten it checked out and it was stupid to keep driving like that. But it was working fine until this morning! I went out to start my car before school and it wouldn‘t start! I put the key in the ignition and the lights and radio and everything work just fine. I turned the key and the car makes these sounds like fast continuous gun shots going off for 2 or 3 seconds. Every light on the dash turns on and then they all just turn off. I don‘t think it‘s a problem with the battery because the lights and everything are working okay. I just don‘t want to go to a shop to get it looked at because I don‘t have that kind of money right now. If someone could give me an idea of what they think is going on I‘d really appreciate it. I‘ll choose best answer.

Answer:

Your supposition about the battery is wrong because it takes much more current to crank the engine than it does to run the lights or the radio. You have either a near dead battery, a bad alternator, a slipping belt, or a dirty connection at the battery terminals. The last three are things that would prevent the battery from recharging.
The sensor is no doubt bad, I've been driving my 2005 Dodge fr the last 2 years with it on. I recently had it checked and that's just what the problem is,i wont waste a dime fixing the stupid thing because it will just go bad again.
The gun shots you here is the starter bendix engaging and disengaging because of a low or near dead battery. The yellow check engine light may be a coincidence without knowing the trouble code. Check the battery connections. If they are clean and tight, have the battery itself checked. You can remove the battery and bring it into any of the larger auto box stores to have it checked. If all is good, put the battery back in, get a boost and get the charging system checked.
