Question:

pros and cons on nuclear weapons?

im doing a research for school and i need some help i need to know more about the pros and cons on Nuclear weapons. im con against Nuclear weapons. It would be great if you can help me out thank you for ur time.

Answer:

Pro: Nukes make war so terrible no one will be willing to start a real war. Con: They may come under the control of fanatics who want to kill off all humanity and are crazy enough to believe God will reward them for their actions. Fact: Eliminating nukes will make the likelihood of terrible massive wars more likely. The world will once again be safe for War!
Pro: They make an excellent deterrent to would be aggressors. They pack a lot of firepower into a relatively small package. Con: They are an expensive, high maintenance weapon that you will, if you're lucky, never use. In a nuclear war, there are no winners.
I'm not sure if this could be put in or not, but that is for you to decide. Almost immediately after the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, very close to ground zero plants began to bloom and grow very quickly. Inside of a week where there were once rather large buildings and factories, there were huge flowers and trees and vines. And animals moved back in fairly quickly. In point of fact, a nuke war would probably end human existence but could serve to restore the environment fairly quickly after what we've done to it. If one believes in evolution, some good could come from it also. Radiation is very conducive to mutations in the genetic code. This often ends in cancer, but it could very quickly turn into an evolutionary advancement if a beneficial something were to come out of radiated cells. It could lead to whole new species emerging from the blast zones.
During the insanity of the Cold War, nuclear weapons were seen as a deterrent against Russia and the Russians saw them as a deterrent against the U.S. attacking them. Thankfully nobody got trigger happy and started a war, in which case we would all be dead. But having mutually ensusred destruction as we called it makes as much sense as using a hand grenade as a defensive weapon. If two people both have a hand grenade with the pin pulled, they both people get blown up and nobody wins.
nuclear warheads sit in silos not being used, even with regular maintenance. They eventually become millions of tonnes of Very toxic waste, which have to be cut up and stored in lead lined barrels somewhere stable and deep for over Ten Thousand Years. The up-keep of that level of secure storage is expensive in the Extreme Nuclear weapons as we know them are will be replaced by newer and probably nastier technology During the Cold War is was Called MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction). It only worked when your enemy had a country and was as scared of death as you are. But our World has changed. The Enemies no longer have fixed countries, nor do they fear death. So not only is there nowhere to fire your rockets at, but the fear of having the weapons is no longer a deterent
